Group construction director,
Richards’ route into the Construction industry began when he undertook a Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship in 1985 for Taylor Woodrow. In 1989 he joined Wates Construction, working his way through the project management positions starting as a Section Manager to Site Manager working on numerous projects in Central London within the Commercial, Education and Residential Sectors.
Richard took the role of Project Manager which involved taking responsibility for the overall delivery of the projects he worked on. A particular highlight in 2008 Richard successfully oversaw the construction of the Margaret Thatcher Infirmary for the Royal Chelsea Hospital enabling him to the next step and becoming a Project Director, leading the construction of Chelsea Academy project.
In 2010 Richard became Business Unit Director for Wates Southern Construction business moving back into London in the same role in 2013.
Having then spent two years as Wates Group Construction Director overseeing the operations function Richard then spent a year overseeing the reorganisation of their Residential North business and is currently now Managing Director of the Wates Construction London Residential business.
