Director of digital technologies,
Dr Graham Herries is Director of Digital Technologies in the Engineering Excellence Group at Laing O'Rourke. This role provides the executive leadership for the ongoing strategic digital transformation of Laing O’Rourke. He leads innovation through adoption of cross sector technologies to both manufacturing and construction site operations.
Graham is also Project Coordinator of the EU H2020 Factory of the Future project OPTIMISED. This EU research grant will develop and deploy Industry 4.0 technologies focussed on providing a manufacturing scheduling optimisation system that uses real-time smart sensors and big data analytics to react and improve manufacturing performance. Within this scope, the impact of energy management on factory planning & optimisation will be specifically addressed.
Prior to his role in Laing O’Rourke he was head of the software centre of excellence with Rolls-Royce with a global corporate remit. He worked for Thales for 8 years on several naval projects living in both the UK and France. Graham started his career in the design of virtual reality training systems. He has since led teams developing high availability systems in several sectors and has acted as both an engineering manager and a technical authority. He has experience of complex systems integration and commissioning with multiple 3rd party providers and independent assessors.
Graham holds a Ph.D. in algorithm development for data classification using statistical classifiers and neural networks. He is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the IET and APMP qualified. Graham is a member of the education and skills policy panel at The IET, where, working in a volunteer position, he supports the education and skills agenda to address matters of policy, and public concern from the perspective of the IET and is a member of the Digital 4 Industry Leadership group.
