CDS were a major contribution to the completion of one of Scotland most Iconic Buildings not just whilst it remained open to the public but also with so many restrictions given the logistics of the building being situated in the heart of the capital but also directly above the railway tunnel. We were key link to the chain in ensuring the structural integrity of the building remained intact during the jacking of the south façade and throughout the demolition and excavation works to the south end of the building.
The Engine Room at Battersea Power Station, serving as IWG’s flagship co-working space in the UK, underwent a 42,000 ft² CAT A and CAT B fit-out across three floors. DBSJ is proud to have completed the project on time, and snag-free in 21 weeks with zero RIDDORS. As a key delivery partner for IWG, we played a crucial role from inception, providing valuable construction knowledge to ensure the viability of the scheme. Our integrated joinery and fit-out approach and collaboration with the wider team showcased craftsmanship, sustainability, an unwavering commitment to health and safety and a dedication to heritage preservation.
The site posed a logistically complex inner-city project working adjacent to party walls and Grade II Listed Gatehouse building. We have ensured all our works are completed in the safest manner with minimal impact on the surrounding businesses with extra care taken to ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on all elevations is maintained. Works were complete in a timely manner and due to the outstanding performance in the demolition phase of works we have been appointed by the client to execute the follow on basement box and 3no core construction.
The once-in-a-generation overhaul of this Grade I-listed building included the full refurbishment of all flat roofs on the property, which had remained in place since the original construction in 1986. Due to the unusual design and height of the building, an innovative hanging scaffold solution was designed to safely remove and replace the existing roof waterproofing. Over 3,000 lift operations were also needed to transport materials between the ground and Level 13 area. Despite these technical and logistical challenges, a collaborative approach ensured that this prestigious building was successfully refurbished in a sympathetic and caring manner.
