This behaviour programme is for all people on our projects, who work alongside one another which poses significant challenges regarding worker safety, silo mentality, competitiveness, and scepticism leading to unsafe behaviour. The measure of the programme’s success that gives us the most pride is seeing our people take responsibility, ownership, and accountability for colleagues, giving clear active communication, and a coaching style of leadership that the behaviour programme embraces. over the reporting period we have significantly reduced our AFR whilst ensuring our people have the necessary skills to to ensure their Health, Safety and Wellbeing for the future.

At Hi-Tech, our Health and Safety team go above and beyond to ensure our sites are audited to the highest standard every time, and to minimise incidents with constant communication and training. In 2023, we had no reportable incidents, and only 5 minor incidents and 3 near misses. We have clients who come to us claiming they think it a shame not all contractors are like us, and our health and safety standards are the reason we have been able to acquire £15mil contracts. Our accreditation is far above average, with Gold Constructionline, SSIP Acclaim, and QMS 45001 and more.
Carpentry and joinery specialist Houston Cox has invested a record amount into enhancing H&S standards, encompassing training, engagement, and equipment, with leadership actively participating throughout. Broadening its H&S focus, the company has also launched a comprehensive suite of tools to support the mental health of its workforce. A key success is the launch of a bespoke H&S app, which facilitates onboarding, e-learning, incident reporting, health monitoring and more, while automatically highlighting non-compliance and trends to inform the company’s strategy. Houston Cox’s commitment to H&S has resulted in it delivering 2.5 million hours across five years without a reportable accident.
John F Hunt has successfully completed some of the country's most technically demanding projects in 2023 and the start of 2024. We believe delivering project excellence should be part of the business's DNA, with this core value being led from the very top of our senior management. This is demonstrated by our commitment as a company to continually invest in innovation to not only improve our business but also industry best practices. This has resulted in a continual reduction in our accident statistics and recognition not only from our clients but also in the form of industry awards.
We have embedded psychosocial health into our integrated management system. We achieved ISO 45003 for the company demonstrating that support is provided globally to all teams. We launched LIFE in our Middle East Operations and appointment of a new Middle East manager further cementing global standards of Health Safety and Wellbeing. We have recently completed a scope extension with BSI International to have our current integrated management system certified for our Middle East operations.We have undertaken colour profiling which uses psychometric principles to ensure we work cohesively globally to deliver excellence in physical and mental health for our staff.
Safety, health, and wellbeing are embedded in MGF’s culture. From January 2023 to April 2024, we've intensified efforts to foster a positive safety culture, with open communication and shared learning. Our SHEQ team hosts weekly calls and operational stand-downs, ensuring consistent messaging. We prioritise employee wellbeing, partnering with healthcare providers and supporting mental health initiatives. From mental health support to cycle-to-work days, we promote healthy living inside and out of work. Near misses are seen as learning opportunities, with our Thinksafe initiative encouraging proactive risk management. Through our safety initiatives, we're committed to creating a safe and healthy workplace.
